New Month New You

With September looming I cannot think of a better excuse to go shopping and get your next season wardrobe sorted. I used to be a lover of Spring, with the warm air bringing the chance to wear flimsy dresses but also a cool breeze ensuring you always wore a jacket. Now Autumn is seducing me, and I cannot wait to start wearing jumpers and leather, lots of leather.

Here are the top key pieces from the high street for next season and how I would style them for day and night:

Night Outfit:
From left: Top from Topshop £14, Necklace from New Look £12.99, Trousers from Topshop £70, Bomber Jacket from Zara £39.99 and Shoes from Office £45
I love these sequin trousers from Topshop, I think they are a great alternative from the disco pant and this colour will  be the 'must-have' of the season. Embracing the berry shades will be a essential. I really like this simple top too as it will look great with all the statement necklaces currently on the high street like this New Look one. The store is currently doing a promotion of buy one get one free so you can stock up on some beautiful necklaces to jazz up your outfits. To finish the look I have added this bomber jacket, a wonderful addition to your wardrobe that you can dress up or down. Finally I could not resist these toe capped heels which are a great height and prevent the outfit looking too gothic.

Day Outfit:

From Left: Dress from Urban Outfitters £50, Trousers from River Island £20, Trainer from Miss Selfridge £45, Jacket from Topshop £30and Necklace (£29.99) & Bracelet (£14.99) from Mango.
In all the magazines layering appears to be a key trend for next season. I even saw some dresses over trousers, which I normally would never consider but can see it working with this dress from Urban. I like how it is asymmetrical so that you would only get a hint of these fabulous tartan trousers. I love all the boucle jackets on the high street so this Topshop one is a definite buy. I added some of these high tops purely for comfort and the fact I like mixing up casual pieces. This jewellery from Mango is so luxurious, and definitely worth a purchase.

What do you think everyone? What are you buying ready for September?

Dungarees? How to Style this late Summer Trend

Although in my title I have hinted that this is a late trend this summer it has actually been on the minds of celebs since May 2012. It however has only been brought to my attention through Rita Ora. Yesterday she performed at the V Festival wearing a pair of bright red dungarees.

Source
Since she became popular this year I have always envied her ability to throw together various garments and look effortless cool. My style is much more co-ordinated and however much I try I never feel comfortable clashing prints or colour. But I was a bit stumped by this outfit. Did she really need to add those Timberland boots?

But I didn't hate the dungarees. In fact with the whole one strap look it did actually look okay. I have had only one previous experience with this trend, aged about thirteen and swore never to go there again.

Rita may have taken the plunge yesterday but through some research I discovered that this summer many other celebs have been donning their 'rees.

Alexa Chung and Rachel Bilson
Here Alexa has kept the look simple by just adding some statement accessories, I especially love the cute ties on her shoes. Rachel Bilson looks equally as casual as she teams her baggy dungarees with a simple white t-shirt. Unfortunately I think this looks a little sloppy compared with her normal chic outfits.

If you still remained unconvinced by this trend, take some advice from Rihanna. She pulls of the look by adding a graphic t-shirt and rolling down the straps so that it only hints to the trend rather than embracing it completely.

Here are my top picks for how to get this look on the high street at a great price:

Make a statement like Rita in these 'rees. From left: New Look sale £11 and Republic £35

Keep it cute in this dress like Alexa from River Island sale at £1
Or choose the boyfriend fit like RiRi and Rachel. From left: Urban Outfitters £38 and Topshop £38
Has this changed your mind about this trend? Will you embrace it now? Please comment below :)

Kardashian Kollection for Dorothy Perkins this Christmas 2012

Source
The news that the reality stars from Keeping up with the Kardashians would be launching their fashion line in Dorothy Perkins this Christmas took Twitter by storm yesterday. It was revealed through Kim's tweets and then confirmed.

Source
Kim, Kourtney and Khloe will be bringing the line, which they currently stock in Sears, to the UK. Philip Green reportedly agreed to the idea himself after already having successful celeb/high street collaborations in his Arcadia empire. Who could forget Kate Moss and her collections for Topshop, whilst recently his daughter Chloe Green has had great success with her green soled shoe line.

Source
The Kardashian Kollection (it hurts my brain to spell it that way) will involve Kim's glamorous look, Kourtney's boho and Khloe's edgy style. I am intrigued to see this collection in Dorothy Perkins as this description sounds a bit jumbled. Can one line really hit all those styles?

Keeping up the with Kardashians has recently been my guilty pleasure this summer and I find the sisters hilarious. But in the back of my mind I cannot help but worry that this fashion line may not work with Dorothy Perkins shoppers. It might have been more suited to the younger crowd in New Look after the popularity of Kelly Brook's designs.

What do you think about this news? Will you be wearing a design by the Kardashians?

Hackney Weekend Festival Fashion

So this weekend I was extremely lucky as I attended Radio 1's Hackney Weekend on Saturday, where I danced to the likes of Nero, Maccabees and of course of the incredible Jay Z. It was such an amazing day and I kept my eye out for all the festival fashion! Denim shorts were the usual staple, but dip hem dresses and skirts made a new entry as ladies teamed them with their wellies. Florence and the Machine rocked this trend on the Sunday when she wore this beautiful dress below:

I also saw so many people in disco pants by American Apparel- I was incredibly envious as they looked as amazing as what the reviews say! They have risen even higher on my wish list now..One lady that I thought would have definitely donned some of these beautiful pants was Jessie J, as she always seems to be in them these days. For this gig however she wore some quirky black and white leggings and orange crop top. Not one of my favourite looks from this singer but glad to see the blunt fringe bob is back!

My favourite outfit of the weekend though, which some may think is surprising, was from Rihanna. She wore a graphic t-shirt, tiny shorts, fish net cycling shorts and lots of gold bling. This may not sound like a fashionistas favourite attire, but I loved the fact she wore something fun and actually quite wearable for a festival. She did not wear sky high heels, and although most of us could never wear shorts THAT tiny, her outfit provided us all with a little inspiration for the coming festivals. I love the fact that it looked like she had put on what she felt comfortable in, even if it might not have been a favourite outfit for the fashion critics! I also need some of those sunglasses for future festivals!

A fellow cycling shorts lover was myself, as I decided to layer some H&M lace ones over tights. I added a bold print dress from Wallis, parka from New Look, rucksack from Urban Outfitters and chunky gold necklace from Dorothy Perkins. Not forgetting my Primark essentials, some sunglasses and white pumps that I customised with some studs.

Kelly Brook's first collection for New Look!

When I first heard that New Look had added Kelly Brook as a designer for their high street brand I was slightly dubious. I suddenly pictured lots of swimwear, ill fitting and lacking in any sort of style. But, to my suprise, she has created a line which is fun and quirky. She says she wanted to create a collection which would look good on curvy girls who struggle to find clothes that fit properly. From the pictures below it appears she has managed to do what she wanted to achieve as all the clothes look flattering and easy to wear. To add to this new collections attractiveness are the prices. The clothes start at £14.99 and end at a reasonable £39.99. My favourite pick is the cute bralet and floral short combo as it would look great dressed up or down.

Day to Night Neon

This week I have decided to experiment with the Neon trend. I love all the pastels in the high street but until I get a bit of a tan they are difficult to wear. Unfortunately the nice weather we had this week appears to have disappeared. So, for now, I am turning to neon to brighten up the days. I have always found the trend a bit tricky as before it was styled with a mixture of neon shades, making you look more clubland than chic.

But ever since I saw Lorraine Candy, Editor of Elle Magazine testing out the trend she pushed me into achieving the look. I absolutely love her neon jeans and the way she has kept everything else very simple. The minimalist ideal has always worried me, as someone who is a fan of piling on the jewellery I always feel naked without it.

But here, with the colour being so eye-catching keeping it simple makes the outfit look even more stylish. I was in H&M recently and found this plain neon t-shirt for £3-an absolute bargain and perfect to ease my way into this trend. Below are my looks from day to night. For the day look I have teamed the t-shirt with some grey/navy slouch pants from Cheap Monday. I picked these up for £10 (sale) at Urban Outfitters and are great for the hours I am spending in the library at the moment. I have also teamed some wedged trainers to add a sport luxe feel, they are from TKMAXX and were reduced from £80 to £20. For the night look I still kept everything very minimal just adding some cropped leather trousers from Topshop at £11 (sale) and chunky court shoes from New Look at £10 (sale). For the evening look I would definitely add some nude nails and smoky eye.

Apologies that the pictures are not too clear, message me if you want more details :)

Power of the Prints

Ever since the spring/summer collections have squeezed their way onto high street rails, I have loved rifling through the varying prints that have bombarded the garments. Recently I had a good look in H&M and already have a list longer than my dissertation with all the printed clothes they have on offer. I especially love the flower print blouse and matching trouser set. It is reminiscent of  the flower suit that celebrities have been wearing from River Island-but at half the price!

Source
Following along the lines of this bold trend, my house mates have just got back from a shopping spree at New Look, (the perfect cure I believe when stressed at university) and I was the first one to see what they had purchased. To my delight they had found some great pieces from the stores new collection, especially indulging in the printed trend. Here are a few of their buys:

All New Look, prices from right: Sale £7, £22.99, £12.99

New Look: Top £9.99, Trousers £24.99. Dorothy Perkins: Necklace: £3

All New Look from right: £9.99, £22.99, £5.99

I think New Look has really got this trend sussed with their bold, bright and interesting designs coupled with lots of variety. It means the buyer can really get creative when styling this trend. At great prices too, there is no excuse not to have a try at clashing your prints. It might not be to everyone's taste but even if you cannot see yourself rocking this trend when you go shopping, I think it would be perfect when festival season begins.

The Geordie Split

Source

There is one thing you should know about me. I love matching clothes on screen to ones that are in the shops. If someone says "oooh I love that dress Mercedes from Hollyoaks is wearing", I will find the exact one from Topshop. Recently I have had quite a few questions on where particular garments are from, and to my increasing smugness I have found them. However, there is one particular on screen fashion trend which I cannot find ANYWHERE. I am literally tearing my hair out over this challenge.

Does anyone watch Geordie Shore?

If you don't, you should and you will. Although it is completely shocking at times it is highly addictive and includes some quite trendy Geordie men. Have a look next week, MTV Tuesday at 10pm, and see two of the characters Gaz and James sporting some split design vests and t-shirts. Now, although you might have to look past the orange tan, they are pretty cool and my boyfriend keeps commenting on them. So I spent the rest of the evening scouring the internet for a good copy or the real deal. Nothing. Seriously. Where have these guys found a t-shirt which apparently no high street store owns? This is completely aggravating as a change in mens attire is about a frequent as James actually pulling a girl. (inside Geordie Shore joke, apologies.)

So, I continued my search to find these unusual tees.

There are alot of t-shirts and vests on the high street for men that are channelling the dip dye trend and of course a increased number of striped tops but none that have the same idea as these shown above.

HOWEVER. I did manage to stumble upon this example, just before I was about to admit defeat. Quite surprisingly the designers at New Look must be avid Geordie Shore fans as they have released this t-shirt at a mere £9.99.

This design from New Look is close but I would love to find out where the boys have brought theirs. As I continue my search I can honestly say I never thought Geordie Shore would be leading the way in the style stakes. Or maybe I have got it wrong? Instead is there a reason the high street appear not to be embracing this trend?

What do you think?
